Una Casa Abruzzese, and Two Aussies - Fundraising

8 to 25 Nov, 2021 - Bomba, Pennapiedimonte - (Italy)

I am so incredibly proud of my wife. Her initial plan of doing a bit of cooking to raise money for charity, gathered momentum, and grew, to the point where we had 16 people coming for an Indian dinner in our tiny house. We converted our cellar bedroom in to a dining room, with equipment (tables, chairs, cuttlery, crockery) loaned by friends and the bar. She successfully served three courses of Indian/Australian cuisine. It was incredibly perfect. Her reward was a staggering $3000 plus donated, either on the night, or by Facebook followers, to the breast cancer research.

Post extravaganza, life returned to a bit of regularity for a couple of weeks. We made a little excursion, but spent our time close to Bomba.

Una Casa Abruzzese, and Two Aussies - Up North

28 Oct to 7 Nov, 2021 - Lago di Iseo, Lago di Garda, Capo di Ponte, Bergamo - (Italy)

North, we went, by car. First to spend some time with our excellent German friends, Andrea and Hermann. The lakes, Iseo and Garda, seemed a fair compromise location, with similar travel times required by each couple from our respective homes. Eating, drinking, laughing, and reminiscing. We even managed to do some sight seeing.

So, the rock was once caught in a conglomerate of sands and other easily eroded minerals. Everything else has eroded, and the rock protects the pillar underneath it, to an extent. Obviously, this will not be a permanent situation...

The petroglyphs in this area number many thousands. Some are contemporary with Roman times or later, but the vast majority go back to Bronze and Iron Age. Animals, and hunting, are frequent motifs.

We were hoping for a good, authentically local meal. But it was long after normal lunch hours. We happened upon this place, which looked like it had finished service for the afternoon, but the chef and waitress jumped up from their pranzo to seat us and fill us with fantastic local dishes.

While in the area, we thought it opportune to take advantage of Patrick's invitation to drop in on him at Bergamo. Bergamo is his home when he takes care of his work on this side of the Atlantic, splitting his life in to three inequal chunks in the USA, Bergamo, and Bomba.
